I used "Advantage" auto rental the last time I had a business trip in Los Angeles, so I checked "other" in the poll. They had the best rate of anybody. Like all car rental companies, they pushed hard to take the extra cost collision damage waver, which is not necessary if you have collision coverage on your own car, as most insurance companies cover your rentals if you are carrying collision insurance (but check with your insurance company to be sure).
In years past, I would rent from the lowest bidder unless it was Alamo, too many horror stories about that company. However, I would sometimes rent a van for a labor day weekend trip from a local Enterprise location and never had a bit of trouble with them. I don't know if Alamo has gotten better since the merger or not.

To answer Mr. Bally, Enterprise owns Alamo/National, so they are all part of one big corporation.

Thrifty- they offer great rates and decent cars. As a member of their 'Blue Chip' loyalty program, I can go directly to the car lot to pick up my car, bypassing the rental counter.

I used Enterprise the last time, and it will be the last time. They found a scratch that I didn't even see and charged me a bunch. I'll stick with Hertz or National next time.

It has been a year or three since I rented a car. It was on a businees trip, I don't remember which company. I could look it up, but don't want to. Whenever we rented a car while ours was being repaired, the dealership used Enterprise.

i could maybe save a little money by shopping around but Enterprise is local to me and the pick-you-up thing is great. they always treat me well and i'm sure they are competitive with the other companies.

I don't remember which company. The last time I returned a rental car was also the last time I flew, 9-9-01 in Pittsburgh, PA.

I usually rent the cheapest I can, which is often Alamo, Thrifty or National, in connection with my travel. But my most recent car rental was while my car was in the body shop after an accident, so I rented where my insurance company told me to go, because that's who they had a deal with--Hertz.

I rented a used car once in California. Forget the name of the place. The car got unbelievable bad gas mileage. Maybe 8MPG or so. And the car idled so fast it was hard to stop it at red lights.

Only good part about the rental was taking pre-paid fueling after the rental which ended up being 25 cents per gallon below local market rates and turning the car in on reserve. Got my moneys worth out of that rental.

Enterprise. Dealt with them in the past and they are pretty easy to handle, plus the last time I needed a rental they were literally down the street from where I was living.

Enterprise has the loaner business at my car dealership. When I go for service I get an Enterprise loaner that the dealership pays for.

Enterprise has the most local locations and normally offers the best bang for the buck. None of the companies offer as many locations. If you're not downtown or at the airport you're SOL.

They must not be counting "trucks". such as Ryder, and u-haul.
Although I would try to avoid u-haul. We got a Major run around, ended up driving 100 miles round trip to pick up a truck. Then it had such a horrible alignment problem, I ruined a brand new front tire, in my drive from MN to LosAngeles CA. I had to fight to keep it on the road the entire trip.
