I would buy a car that would either be hybrid or alternate fuel than dependent on oil. I think that we need to look to the future and conserve.

I would like to see something done to be able to get higher mileage on the bigger vehicles--some people NEED big vehicles, for their families, jobs, etc. Plus busses which carry lots of people and luggage would benefit from better fuel (whatever source) efficiency on public transportation. We don't all want to travel cross-country packed in a tiny car like sardines. I love having a compact for in-town driving (and I plan to get a hybrid to replace this one), but prefer the minivan for long trips not just because of the space for people, luggage, dogs and dog crates, etc. but because it's also more comfortable to ride in and you can see better sitting up higher, so feel it's also safer than my tiny car. If they make the larger vehicles so they get better mileage, maybe I could eliminate one vehicle altogether, since as an empty nester, I really don't need two any more.

Alternative Fuel (hybrid, fuel cell, electric etc) long range capabilities mid-size SUV. Size for comfort but not huge. Height keep my rear end from dragging on the ground and being able to see over cars esp in our town and on the highway. I'm close to 70, don't worry or care about looking or driving rich. Comfort is what counts now to me.

I would buy another Chevy Avalanche. This is the best vehicle that I have ever owened and it is so versatile. It is a great vehicle for going camping, for going to a sports game tailgating, or towing a trailer. It is so comfortable inside, my wife calls it the living room on wheels!! It's loaded with every option that you would ever need and some that you don't. The best feature is the killer Bose stereo, it will knock your socks off Lol!! I love this truck so yeah, I guess I would buy another one!!

I need a hybrid pickup
but the $80,000.00 GM Tahoe is a joke.
GM should go bankrupt, be forced to get the big picture, oil is the past, look to the future and make reasonable priced $20-$30K hybrid pickups.
Not some flex fuel ethanol either. Ethanol from corn is a JOKE.
Look at Brazil, the did it right, from SUGAR.
And GM makes billions around the world and has car plants around the world, not just in the USA.
When I get ride of my Chevy Colorado, I am going back to Toyota like I had before. Better MPG and better construction/fit of everything.

Well lets not let them Off the Hook!We had a chance to Kill OPEC now we are faced with another Rise toward 2 and 3 dollar a gallon Gas.

CONSERVE CONSERVE CONSERVE.

We can make these people scamble get our 1/gallon gas and ride this SOB for a while until the alternate fuels Kick in. We need to start now,

I recommend a tax Holiday on all Solar and Wind Farm Projects. Rebates up to 50% of the cost of putting these systems into homes or parks.

We can do it! We can stick it up there behind and Break it Off.
Write your congressmen Demand Action in the new administration.

Do something! If we all do we have a shot, if only some of us it will truly fail!Kill OPEC

Do you people realize that Hybrids (gas+electric) do more damage than a normal diesel burning truck? The environmental damage that the battery creates during production and shipment is exponentionaly worse than if you where to just drive a normal car. Its all just a big scam.

My problem is that it seems "Alternate fuel" usually means "electric". Around here almost all of our electricity comes from coal-fired power plants so an electric car isn't going to help me save the planet. I suppose if I lived in an area that relies on hydro-electric power I wouldn't be adding to dirty air but dams do all sorts of other environmental damage. Can't win; don't try. I'm changing my vote -- I like that Prevost option a previous poster mentioned, with some sort of Jeep being towed behind it.

Here is a real opportunity to "do the right thing." So you have unlimited money. Let me repeat: "Do the right thing." And that would be to purchase an alternative fuel vehicle. Unlimited money (or comparatively cheap gas as we have today) should certainly not let us forget the lessons of Summer 2008. Crude oil is still a scarce commodity and a dangerous one on which to be dependent. Every citizen, now matter what his means, needs to pitch in and make the country as independent of crude/gas as possible. It is a much better way, than war say, to make this country, safe, secure, and economically viable.

Conserve now, buy alternative fuel vehicles. And if you still have a pocketful of cash, save it or spend it sensibly.

I hear you, KrazyDawg. I'm all for cleaner fuel if it was a realistic option. The technology just doesn't seem to be there right now.

The results just seem disingenuous compared to the real question. It's like people are trying to say the right thing rather than what they would really do.

Alternative isn't really winning out. All the other car votes can be lumped up into one category therefore the results are 50%+ vs 32%. Why do people insist on buying a truck for their work when they have alternative fuel versions of it? This is after all a poll where money is no object.

It's not just about reducing global warming. It's also about cleaner air and making sure there are enough resources for everyone including future generations. If water was scarce would it be fair to take it all for yourself just because you have the power and money to do so. I can't believe people are still greedy. The holidays bring out the worst in people. Already had two people steal my parking spot entering the wrong way too.

[Cautiously step on soap box]
I can't believe the entire 1/3 of pollsters voting for Alternative Fuel are being truthful on what they would buy if money were truly no object. A third of people win a $100 million lottery and they buy a Toyota Pruis? C'mon. Let's be real. It can't be that 1/3 of people have been brainwashed into believing all the fraudulent man-made global-warming hype. I'm glad to see some of you are motivated enough into researching the true facts and found little to no evidence supporting that!

nedthenanite: I have a Prius and I think it's fun. Definitely cool. Apparently I'm not alone in my position; there are websites dedicated to the Prius, polls that consistently rank Prius as ubercool, etc.

I'm sure your tastes vary, and that's ok. We're out there. Just open your eyes.
