Oppose, tax breaks should go to all companies developing these technologies.

Oppose - I see another tax cut on them would only provide more money for their stock holders. Let another private enterprise develope it, and make them cringe.

I would like lower prices, but I don't believe that the government has any business managing private enterprise

Wind power is ok. But it has a huge capital cost and gives you only a few mega-watts. We need many thousands or millions of mega-watts. The generators are getting better. We should pursue it but we should not provide tax breaks for it.
Solar is a really bad choice. It too has a huge capital cost. I once did a quick calculation to estimate the size of a solar panel to double Manitoba's electrical generating power with solar. The panel would be 260,000 sq km, about 2/5 the size of Manitoba (or Texas - same size as Manitoba). To translate into American, it would be 100,000 sq miles or about the size of Colorado. Probably will never happen . . .
Hydrogen is not an energy source. It is the most common element in the solar system, but it is really hard to generate. Today most comes from reforming - natural gas is mixed with steam. A fossil fuel. And the waste is carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide - exactly the things we are trying to prevent. Also, you can use electricity to make hydrogen but we don't have enough of that either. You must solve the hydrogen generation problem before this is viable.
Perhaps if there were other choices . . . as is, I oppose tax breaks for any of these three.

I'd be in favor of tax cuts for most things, especially those that are energy related.

Oppose, seems like the technology for wind and solar already exists. How about a tax cut to develop the wheel? Bill313 has been heating his water for 35 years. He doesn't need the technology.

Would you favor or oppose the government giving tax cuts to energy companies to develop wind, solar and hydrogen technology? Definitely in Favor. We've been missing the boat for too long. In our home on Long Island NY the water was heated by solar, for 35 years , here in Lees Summit MO the HOA would not allow the collectors on the roof! Hydrogen technology sounds grand...

Favor. But, they have to be doing this as a non-profit or have the credit given as long as they continue to give as much back to the economy. Do not want to make the same mistake we made with the Oil companies.
I also favor giving oil companies tax credits for research into alternative fuels, as long as they do it as a non-profit basis to help the America and the rest of the world....not just their pockets.
We have to not exclude one form of company from working on this new research, but we have to make sure they do not negatively impact research or are able to buy out any more research projects.

Sorry. I intended the quotes around windfall to imply sarcasm. There is no such thing as a windfall profit. There is no such thing as gouging. High prices automatically ration scarce resources. They are necessary. Without them, there are shortages.
We had tax credits under James Earl Carter to promote alternative energy like solar. The other day, my wife asked what became of all those companies? They dried up when the tax credits ended.

BenzineBoy, you don't get windfall profits until you have a robust industry. You need government help on research to get to the point where the private sector can confidently invest in the industry.

How about getting the government out of it. If the government was not involved with its import tariff, we could buy ethanol for $0.54/gallon less.
