I usually get a time estimate ahead of the apointment and plan for a few what-nots to do/visit/shop and get the dealership to drop me off at a convenient point to where I need to go & get picked up when they near service/repair completion.

Neighbor is my mechanic - with lift and all ( old Midas place I think). He has the car for as long as 4 days but then I wasn't really waiting on it.

Me wait at a repair shop??? NO WAY!!! The only time I wait at a shop is to have new tires put on or have an alignment done. The waiting time depends on how busy they are. Average waiting time, about an hour. If it's longer, I'll leave and comeback later.

I somehow missed the poll question that week, but I would have voted "8 hours" if it had been available as a choice.
That might have been cheating, since I spend 8-10 hours at a Honda store at least 3x/week. So technically, I guess you could argue that I'm not "waiting".
But on the flip side, "waiting" for ANYTHING is a whole different ballgame if you've got something enjoyable and/or productive to do WHILE you're waiting. We regularly get people who come in and spend 2-3 hours using their laptop computer or iPad through our wireless internet. Sometimes they don't even want to leave when the vehicle is done!

About an hour for lube, oil, filter and checks. For anything else where the time is uncertain, I would normally leave the car and come for it later.

I have to say it all depends on what it is that I am taking the car in for. If its just an oil change I will wait. If it is a number of things then I will leave and come back later.

About three hours is my maximum time. Anything longer and I'm coming back later.
