No, they are a waste of money, and would have small positive results.

Driving smarter and planning trips are better fuel savers than any device can offer.

Most don't work and if there is a small increase in mileage it probably will save less than the device cost to install. The best fuel savers are to keep the vehicle in good running condition. Tune ups, air filters, tire pressure correct and a soft foot on the gas and break pedals.

FACT: the only TRUE "gas saving" device that can be put into a vehicle is a "THINKING DRIVER". All the add-on gizmos in the world won't help fuel mileage, most use more fuel to increase torque.

>>It gives one better mileage, better power, and you only need one filter for the life of the vehicle. Where's the downside? <<

The down side is you cannot prove what you have said.

anybody who hasn't bought a K & N air filter is throwing their money away. It gives one better mileage, better power, and you only need one filter for the life of the vehicle. Where's the downside?

I haven't added any "fuel saving" devices as I don't have much, if any confidence in them. The trick? Keep the tires inflated; don't speed and avoid rapid starts and stops. It's not exactly rocket science!
