Evaluating last week's prediction for this week, I said "By next Monday the national average will be $2.91 while prices in Canada will average 105.2c/L." Taking a look this morning, the average is $2.881 for the U.S. and 105.9c/L in Canada. This isn't as close as I've been in the past couple weeks, so we'll call this prediction "close".

I also said last week that prices would fall in MI, OH, IN, WI, IL, and KY for the first half of the week. Prices in most of these areas dropped, some large, some just slightly.

Also last week I indicated prices in the Northeast would rise, something that's also happened as local refineries have undergone maintenance at an impressive rate.

For this week, we start the Thanksgiving...

its funny how opec is involved in all of this!
kuwait, iraq and iran output so much to the world
and thats just 3 countries that!
iraq and kuwait now..since they are owned by the US
pump the most oil to the US!

canada has oil in the north
US has oil in the South
what the hell is going on then?
how does a barrel go up to 80 bucks?
because the US is now a business empire
all the politicians have these contracts with all these companies to keep prices high and bang the consumer..

what a joke!

prices have gone up and stayed there so far. Maybe not as big a jump as it has been, but then, with the economy in the dumps, it's not going to be a good for lots of driving anyways.

Let's see, Speedway has stations in the following states:

- Wisconsin (73 stations)

- Illinois (92 stations)

- Michigan (292 stations)

- Indiana (225 stations)

- Kentucky (130 stations)

- Ohio (447 stations)

Yet the adjacent states do not:

- Minnesota (0 stations)

- Iowa (0 stations)

- Missouri (0 stations)

- Arkansas (0 stations)

- Tennessee (0 stations)

- Virginia (0 stations)

- West Virginia (44 stations)

- Maryland (0 stations)

- Pennsylvania (0 stations)

- New York (0 stations)

Wow. That's funny, with the exception of West Virginia, it matches the "forecast" area exactly.

You know, I can reliably "predict" that gasoline prices will decline between Saturday and Monday, and increase sharply between Tuesday and Friday, in St. Louis - with ~80% accuracy - as I could for Akron Ohio, Champaign Illinois, Fort Wayne Indiana, Grand Rapids Michigan, and Lexington Kentucky. What you're doing, is nothing more than posting what some people already know, that Marathon Oil (via Speedway) is going to jack prices nearly every week, on Tuesday or Wednesday based upon the API crude oil/refined products inventory report.

If the API report shows a draw-down, price increases usually occur on Tuesday. IF the API report shows little change or small increases, but the EIA report on Wednesday shows a decline, the price change occurs on Wednesday. If both reports are neutral, but crude oil has been climbing, the price change happens on Thursday. If all three indicators are positive (API neutral to increasing supplies, EIA neutral to increasing supplies, crude oil declining), the next "spike" is rolled over to the following week. This pattern rarely goes beyond the third week.

Just like clock-work.

So when is "guessing", news?

And by SPECULATING about prices trends, aren't you contributing to the volatility in fuel prices, compounding the problem?

Aren't most of the readers of the site - Americans - that you don't live in Canada. Me, I'm glad that we don't live in England. They really pay through the nose.

Prices went from $2.65 to $2.89 yesterday while I was at work. Was going to top off but oh well. What really torques me is I haven't seen squat about oil prices going up, and while the oil companies are making money hand over fist, they want to do the customary price increase before Thanksgiving. Now they say this is supply/demand because of all the demand on Thanksgiving, but c'mon people, can you at least take the holidays off when you're bending us over the barrel every day?

I also just love how the price at the pump jumps up a quarter or more at a time and trickles down over two weeks until they decide to do it again. Gas prices are no way that volatile; it's just the speculators keeping the anxiety going. Well, a lump of coal to them all (or a lump of granite; hurts more)!

They went up here in Fort Wayne for the Thanks Giving holiday to $2.89 a gallon. The prices had fallen back to $2.71 a gallon at most stations.

The price fixers raised gasoline up .30 a gallon here yesterday. When America was for the people by the people these thugs would have wound up in court for violating the anti-trust laws o the US. Now with the corrupt establishment its business as usual. WE have no one to blame but ourselves for the road of apathy we have taken.

Good to hear that they think gas prices will fall in IL, I plan on traveling back home & I was just telling my mom today I filled up for 2.87 & she was like "that is a great price", yet she didn't know that was premium, lol.
