Average gasoline prices will fall slightly again this week, continuing last week's trend lower. Over the last week, prices have begun to fall after a large surge in prices several weeks prior.

Much of the reason for the downturn is due to Chinese authorities who increased interest rates last week, hoping to slow their economy (and in turn slowing economies of major trading partners). The news of the surprise increase in interest rates in China sent the dollar soaring, easing pressure on oil prices, and helping gasoline futures edge lower as well.

We're feeling the impact of last week's downturn this week, and many areas of the United States should see price averages dropping. We also got good news last week out of Washington...

even w/ the $ heading higher (thanks to the Chinese buying 1 Billion US-Dollars per day to keep the currency stable and their exports cheap) we will not see a large change at the pump.

It merely dropped about 2 cents here after jumping 10 cents.

average gal. of gas @ $2.79, California must be it's own island because it's $0.40 to $0.50 higher. and the holidays are coming. i've talked to a coulple of gas station owners and asked if $4 a gallon this winter possible they couln't give me an answer of "no". i'm pretty sure they all talk with each other and know whats coming. any way it's Obamas agenda to callapse the American infrastructure (commerce). that's my opinion and i'm sure some of you would also agree. and if you disagree you probly have a tax payer funded gas card to use.

Bah! This is only a short term view that can be useful only to speculators. We need long term trend information.

Lower trend? $2.89 is not low and my neighborhood is filled with them or closed stations. Good news out of Washington? NOV 3RD WILL HAVE IT. $2 cap on fuel's price.

For the first time in several months, local gas prices in my gas price gouging home town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan have dropped below $2.90. But the differential between the price of gas in the Upper Peninsula and the price of gasoline in the Lower Peninsula is still well over 30 cents a gallon.

Last week I wrote a response to another local residents Letter to the Editor who had brought to light the manipulative manner local gas station operators have employed to keep gas from decreasing based on local market factors. It truly sucks to live in a extremely economically and vocationally challenged community where gasoline consumers are treated like a cash cow.

They are all over the place here. One will be up and the other down. The next day it is the opposite. Seems like they might be overreaching in this latest money grab.

Noticed a slight drop from 4-5pm to nearly midnight, most places only a penny, but one a whopping 3ยข. Of course, when prices rise, they can leap a dime in a minute.

Prices will depend on the value (strength or weakness) of the dollar.
