Hello Toronto Gasbuddies, it has been a long time. Dalton McGuinty last week declared that he and his Government would not do anything to ease the pain at the pump. He stated that if the Government removed the HST from the price of fuel, the oil companies would simply 'fill in the gap' and motorist would see no change in the price at the pump.
I have a HUGE problem with this rationale.
Many people blame one of three things on the high prices we are paying. They blame 'big oil' for gouging, they blame 'big Government' for the taxes on gas or they blame both. Since our Government has a problem with transparency, would it not be in their best interest to remove themselves from the equation? If the McGuinty Liberals did indeed remove the HST from fuel and the oil companies filled in that gap, would that not constitute gouging? If you visit Petro-Canada's website it states that taxes are one of the biggest factors in the price at the pump. If the tax was removed who could the oil companies blame? It seems to me that everyone wants to pass our hard earned buck but no one wants to do anything about it. Can you blame the oil companies for wanting to make money? Not really, after all that is what you go into business to do. Can you blame the Government for continuing to reach into our pockets and strip us of hard earned dollars? Yes, you sure can and it is time that we made that clear to them.
Visit GasMizer today and tell our Federal and Provincial Politicians what you think about gas prices and the taxes we pay. One voice alone is not enough, many voices together resonate.
